Amble needs a leisure centre

Amble needs a leisure centre
The Issue
Amble is a sea side town which means the importance of teaching the local children water safety is an absolute necessity. Now that Park leisure has cancelled all school contracts and will not allow them to use the pool at the old Granary site has forced the schools to travel to Alnwick to enable school children to participate in swimming lessons which is putting a lot more added cost on schools having to now provide buses, which in turn, is also taking even more of their education time to have to travel their and back when they would normally just walk. For the family’s who can not afford the additional cost of the raise in the contributions requested by the schools to help fund these trips it will mean their child may miss out on these very important water safety lessons.
Amble is an ever growing town and would very much benefit from having its own swimming pool & leisure facilitieswith a school contract that a private company cannot withdraw from. If you are able to see all the comments on “Amble Matters” & Amble Community Team -ACT” on Facebook you will see as a community everyone in the area feels the same and are up in arms about it. Something needs done as Alnwick, Berwick, Ashington, Morpeth and every other surrounding town the size of Amble has been granted the funding for this why can’t Amble have the same opportunity instead of the town only being granted funding and permissions for things that benefit the tourists, like over priced apartments that don’t tie in with the area that barely any of the locals can afford.
I speak on behalf of most, if not all, of the Amble community when I highlight the fact Amble needs a leisure centre that benefits the residents.
