Healthcare Workers Demand Immediate Release of Information on Pregnancy drug Diclectin!

The Issue

One of the most commonly used drugs in pregnancy in Canada is Diclectin. With thousands of prescriptions per year, it is the first-line treatment for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.

On October 14, 2015, the CBC (along with the Toronto Star, Maclean’s, and National Post) reported that thousands of pages of clinical data are being held by Health Canada on the safety and efficacy of Diclectin from the drug company Duchesnay Inc., and which neither party is willing to release, despite requests dating back to 2011.

Efforts to release this data are stalled, while thousands of pregnant people in Canada continue to take this medication.

Regardless of the results, the Canadian government and the drug company Duchesnay Inc. have a duty to release this data for scientific scrutiny so that women in Canada and their doctors can make informed decisions about this drug.

As concerned healthcare workers and community members across Canada, we demand that the Canadian government, or the drug company Duchesnay Inc., release ALL the data on Diclectin for investigation by the medical and scientific community.
