The California Academy of Mathematics and Science, also known as CAMS, is a magnet high school located on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills, in Carson, California. The school, which is part of Long Beach Unified School District, has consistently ranked as one of the best in California and the United States. It is especially known for helping underprivileged students to succeed and attend 4 year universities across the nation. Unfortunately, transportation to the school can be difficult. Many students take public transportation, or carpool everyday. Years ago the school had a bus from the Long Beach area, but now, it is increasingly difficult for students to get to school. Moreover the school makes it very difficult for students to drive and park at the school. Unlike most other Long Beach Unified High Schools, parking for students at CAMS is not free. While teachers and faculty are given yearly parking passes, students are left to either pay the daily fee of $6 for parking or the semester long fee of $120. This outrageous price serves as a deterrent to students of lower socio-economic status to drive to school, and overall inhibits students. We the students of the California Academy of Mathematics and Science urge LBUSD and the California Board of Education to find a solution for free or more reasonably priced parking for students.
