I had the worst day I’ve ever had at Horse Ride’s of Pensacola in 19 years. yesterday I received a phone call from my stepdaughter Angel Golden who is on a two hour trail ride traveling back from Perdido Water Management with a couple. All I can make out is come fast cookies leg is broke. When I arrived on scene I thought the horse stepped in a hole and broke its leg. But I found out very quickly that was not the case.… Actually an 80+-year-old woman that I have yelled that numerous times to slow her vehicle down when traveling past the horses struck and hit my horse shattering his leg , Throwing the horse to the ground on top of my stepdaughter. The horse immediately stood back up and Angel took off after the car because it kept traveling. she was yelling and screaming in panic. When she pulled out her phone and started snapping pictures the lady finally stopped Angel ran up to her screaming and yelling at her you hit my horse you hit my horse her only comment was I thought I hit a mailbox. Angel said I looked right at you and you looked right at me she said nothing else. When the officer arrived on scene. I of course was very distraught throwing up and screaming crying. I know that when I horses leg is broke that means you have to put him down I guess people think that’s just in the movies but folks it’s for real you have to put him down when they have a broken leg. All the houses have a ring doorbell except for the actually house it happen in front of and that sucks. But it could’ve been worse my step daughter could be dead along with my horse. I have tried in the past through our local officials to get signs put up because Beulah is very much and always has been horse Community that’s why we built the equestrian center here in Beulah. And we have Per Dedo Water Management which has equine trails in it For us to enjoy. And I’ve asked our local officials to put up signs to make people slow down and be aware there are horses traveling through this area. I was thrown to the state road department where they said no. So I’m gonna be getting a petition together and I’m gonna need everybody’s help. So we can get some signs out here in Beulah. But this is a woman that actually lives here in Beulah that I have had to yell at many times along with other equestrians about her speed when coming past a horse. You should always slow down and if you can get over get over if you can’t then stop the Iivestick has the right away. I woke up this morning in reality hit me like a lead hammer in the head. Most of my morning has been in tears. I asked God to forgive this woman for what she has done and help me to forgive her for her mistake. I asked that everybody be in prayer for not only Cookies and Horse Ride to Pensacola and Angel with that lady that hit us as well. I think it’s time that the elderly if you are 70 yrs I believe it’s time that the test is given to the elderly once they receive Social Security and 70 years old, every year they need to take a driving test with a officer in the vehicle driving a course, with different scenarios playing out like a kid on a bicycle on the side of the road. To make sure that they can’t safely operate a vehicle on our roadways. As we get older our reaction time changes our eyesight starts failing us we move slower all of this applies when we get behind the wheel as well. So I believe we do need to start testing people 70 years of age once a year to make sure they are safe to continue driving. This could’ve been much worse for this I am blessed. The goal for my petition today is to get horse crossing signs put into the Beulah community near the Perdido Water Management area.

My second goal is to make it a law where people age 70+ must take some sort of test to prove that they are still capable of driving safely on there own.

My third and last goal is to change the Florida Laws concerning horses while riding on the road because anyone who rides horses knows that not being able to see the car coming towards you is not very safe. Horses should be able to be ridden facing traffic instead of with it.
