The schools will claim that good attendance is a direct correlation to academic success but the real reason for promoting attendance is for district funding.  Yes, good attendance does help a student succeed but promoting perfect attendance through awards also promotes unhealthy habits such as children coming to school sick so not to miss out on receiving an award.  Students will succeed even when out sick a few days a school year.  With the current pandemic and to prevent other illnesses from spreading in schools, schools should immediately stop promoting perfect attendance through awards.  Abolish attendance awards when schools resume!
