Laura Canada: Stop Using Wool. Stop Supporting Animal Cruelty.

The Issue

Having witnessed the brutal realities of the wool industry, I cannot remain silent. Sheep are regularly subjected to extremely violent and painful shearing "practices," including live lamb cutting, being beaten with fists and heavy electric clippers, punched, kicked, stomped on, stabbed, having their heads slammed against the floor, and being castrated without painkillers...their cries of agony, fear, and suffering entirely dismissed. These videos capture just a fraction of the cruelty and suffering that is considered standard practice in the wool industry: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/nov/16/secret-videos-reveal-workers-beating-sheep-on-english-and-scottish-farms (2018); https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1758749528046195 (2025). These innocent beings, like us, deserve freedom from fear and pain, and the right to live in peace.

The wool industry is marred by unimaginable cruelty, including painful mutilations, violent shearing, neglect, and eventual slaughter of these gentle sentient beings. These egregious practices are unethical and unnecessary in today's world where alternatives abound. The demand for ethical, sustainable fashion is growing rapidly, and consumers are increasingly choosing brands that align with their values.

Canada sources nearly all of its wool from New Zealand, the United States, China, and Australia — places where the abuse you’ve witnessed is routinely carried out. Laura Canada, a leading fashion retailer, has the power to make a significant change by eliminating wool from all their winter coats and clothing lines. By choosing cruelty-free materials, Laura Canada can become a leader in ethical fashion and inspire others in the industry to follow suit.

Many cruelty-free and sustainable alternatives exist today, from organic cotton and hemp to recycled and synthetic materials. By investing in these alternatives, Laura Canada can deliver the style and warmth their customers expect while adhering to compassionate values.

We urge Laura Canada to stop ignoring the plight of sheep, to commit to removing wool from all current and future product lines, and to pledge to adopt cruelty-free practices. This change will not only align with the increasing consumer demand for ethical fashion but will also elevate their brand as a trustworthy option for conscious consumers.

Help us send a powerful message to Laura Canada: the days of animal cruelty and suffering in fashion must end! Sign this petition to demand that Laura Canada embrace sustainable, humane, and cruelty free practices. Together, we can create a future where fashion does not come at the cost of suffering.
