We 100% support the recommendation of DENIAL from the P&Z board hearing last night. We anticipate that the Brevard County Commissioners will have the Rezoning application on the docket at the July 9 meeting and call on them to vote NO on the rezoning.
Last night’s bait and switch by their counsel to change zoning course—at the meeting—are failed attempts to mitigate the groundswell of community opposition, our 3,000 petition signatures in just seven days, and the firm opposition from the City of Melbourne.
Our community is not budging in any zoning other than its present RR-1. This is the primary zoning characteristic of Lake Washington.
Given the applicant’s late evening tactic to now propose R-1-11 (57 units) vs RU-2-6 (86 units), the P&Z board members requested a new report/analysis be done by the county staff to understand what is now proposed (as per board members John Horengarten and Debbie Thomas).
Our residents and the City of Melbourne would also require time to understand what was just proposed, digest it, and ask probing questions.
We are a tight knit community and are here for the long haul. We are prepared to go the distance to protect our quality of life. You can guarantee we will be at that meeting (and any other meeting on this parcel) in force.
