The smartphone market has been stale for several years, with very little changes in design and functionality. There are two operating systems, android (google) and ios (apple), which cover more than 70 percent and more than 28 percent of the mobile market, respectively. The high-end belongs to both operating systems, while the mid-range and low-end belong exclusively to android. This causes very little competition and thus little innovation in terms of functionality and performance, but also in terms of design with companies repurposing the same design following "fashion standards." In addition, we can see a general increase in prices in the high end, but also in the lower end.

There is a need for an operating system with a new interface (not yet another copy of static icons), intuitive and with unique features, as windows phone had been, and a design like that of the Lumia series, which is still relevant today

With a third competitor, buyers would have more choice about the 'experience they want to have on a phone and more conpetitive prices. Google and Apple and the other hardware companies would have more incentive to invest in new features and design choices by improving their products more quickly and not by proposing the same phone with slight improvements every year.
In conclusion, buyers would have more choice, more innovation, and lower costs.

Now is the best time to try again to enter the market with a third operating system, as the scarcity of innovations and lack of curiosity in new products are widespread. Waiting any longer would risk missing the opportunity.
This petition is mainly addressed to Microsoft because it is the company that currently has the biggest budget, the best knowledge and the best means to succeed (considering also a base of the mobile operating system already made, a well-known brand like Lumia and the know-how learned from Nokia), but it is also addressed to any other company that wants to try this road.
