Launch Mini Metro Feeder Buses & Shared E-Rickshaw: Make Public Transport Work End-to-End
The Issue
Bengaluru has invested heavily in public transport through the Metro and BMTC network. However, for many commuters, the journey does not begin or end at a station or bus stop. The lack of reliable, affordable last-mile connectivity forces people to depend on private vehicles, ride-hailing services, or long walks, reducing the effectiveness of public transport and contributing to congestion.
We, the citizens of Bengaluru, request the Government of Karnataka, BMTC, and BMRCL to implement a comprehensive city-wide last-mile connectivity program that makes public transport convenient, accessible, and affordable for all.
Our Key Requests
1. Introduce Small Feeder Buses Across Bengaluru
-Deploy mini-buses and electric feeder buses connecting residential layouts, office hubs, educational institutions, and commercial areas to nearby --Metro stations and major bus terminals.
-Ensure feeder services are synchronized with Metro schedules.
-Operate at high frequency during peak hours.
2. Enable Shared Electric Rickshaw Services
-Establish designated shared e-rickshaw stands at all Metro stations and major BMTC transit hubs.
-Permit fixed-route shared services at affordable fares.
-Integrate digital payments and public transport ticketing where feasible.
3. Create Official Last-Mile Mobility Zones
-Designate pickup and drop-off areas for feeder buses, e-rickshaws, and other shared mobility services.
-Reduce congestion around station entrances through organized operations.
4. Prioritize Areas Without Reliable Connectivity
-Focus on newly developed residential areas, IT corridors, industrial zones, and neighborhoods located more than 1 km from Metro stations or major bus routes.
5. Publish Service Standards
-Maximum waiting time targets.
-Standardized fares.
-Safety and accessibility requirements.
-Real-time tracking through existing public transport apps.
Why This Matters
A robust last-mile network will:
-Increase Metro and BMTC ridership.
-Reduce traffic congestion.
-Lower pollution and fuel consumption.
-Improve accessibility for senior citizens, women, students, and persons with disabilities.
-Make public transport a practical alternative to private vehicles.
Call to Action
We urge:

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC)
