We are pressing for the initiation of an independent and transparent inquiry into the unfortunate stabbing incident that occurred at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in April 2024. This incident, shocking and deeply troubling for all involved, illustrates the increasing violence in our schools and unearths a growing concern for the safety of students and teachers alike. According to the National Education Union, nearly half of teachers (45%) have reported a rise in violence or threatening behaviour in schools over the past two years (as cited in The Guardian). Therefore, it becomes imperative not only to uncover the causes and failures that led to the incident at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, but also to put in place measures that guarantee the safety of every student and teacher in all schools in the UK. The public has a right to know why this happened, how it was allowed to happen, and what can be done to prevent it from happening again. This inquiry is the first step to ensuring that.
