Lastpass, stay independent!

The Issue

Dear Lastpass Leadership,

We, the lastpass users, absolutely love your service. The level of security, integration with external tools (browsers, mobile operating systems and multifactor authentication tools) and overall ease-of-use just doesn't compare to similar products. Because of that, many of us have been very happy paying customers for many years and until today we had no reasons to not continue to be so for many more years.

However, today you announced being acquired by LogMeIn which has unsettled a lot of your users. While we appreciate the open communication around this event as well as your outspoken commitment to continue to do your very best for the lastpass community, many of us nonetheless have serious concerns around this decision.

While we understand that all encryption and decryption of Lastpass data happens locally, the change of ownership of our encrypted data to a company like LogMeIn is alarming. Not in the least because LogMeIn is known to have changed their monetization strategy without much regard of their users in the past.

Different Lastpass users have different reasons for not liking this aquisition, but long story short, the fact is that we trust Lastpass with our *encrypted* data (a trust that has been hard earned throughout the years), we don't trust LogMeIn.

Because of this, we, the Lastpass users, want the Lastpass Leadership to reconsider this decision and cancel the acquisition plans.

Sincerly yours,

Your users
