The Issue

Mature trees like these benefit humans by cleaning and cooling  the air and reducing air pollution, plus they provide homes for birds and other wildlife who are already under threat. These mature trees along Tavistock Road in Plymouth are due to be cut down for road widening. Please please can we get a Halt to this destruction and ask the council to look further at alternatives before it is too late. Once they’re gone they’re lost. They  won’t be replaced.

In these times when the government are spending vast sums of money to attempt to cool down the earth it is counter productive to take away mature trees like these.  It is predicted that climate change will affect the UK’s weather significantly with more frequent and intense weather extremes. Harnessing mature trees’ natural thermo-regulating capacity will be incredibly important in these coming years.  https://nhsforest.org/blog/humans-need-trees-for-health/

The extra pollution from the increasing traffic on Tavistock Road will lose this natural  filter.

Plymouth City Council had said they considered whether it might be possible to retain some of the trees currently identified for removal to reduce the impact of the scheme as much as possible and find alternative solutions.  However the residents have been told the removal of the trees will go ahead.

Please can we get a halt to this increasing destruction now before it is too late
