Donate money to schools who don't have Air Conditioning or Heat
The Issue
Even during the worst pandemic in our history the Maryland gaming industry netted almost $400 million for Maryland education but there are STILL schools in Maryland and many of them in Baltimore City that do not have air conditioning or heat. I would like to know what the Maryland Government is doing with the money that was provided by the gaming industry? How come the money is not used to provide basics like heating and air conditioning? I'm always being told to be accountable, accountable for my actions, accountable for the words I choose, accountable for my homework and assignments, how come you are not accountable for the money slated to go to schools? I would like our Government to help and assist our schools. Almost $2 billion dollars has been spent on education since slots were permitted, but still kids in school still freeze in classrooms and schools close because of broken furnaces and faculty heating systems. Where did the $2 billion dollars spent go to? How come so many schools in Maryland still do not have heat and air conditioning? In the seven years since the first of Maryland's six casinos opened, they have put $700 million into the state's Education Trust Fund, but over that time, casino funds have not gone to support school budgets but used in other areas other than education. If you promise that the money will go to Maryland education shouldn't you be accountable to show where the money has been spent and why so many schools still haven't been renovated? When I was in elementary school I didn't have air conditioning and it made school unbearable. No one could pay attention because it was too hot in the classroom. You kept having to fill your water bottle and then you know what comes next so there were a lot of interruptions. No learning gets done when its too hot or too cold in a classroom. I was lucky because after a couple years my school had central air put in and it made a big difference. I'm in middle school now and I was listening to the news in the car with my dad and I heard that elementary schools STILL didn't have air conditioning in their schools. I wanted to pitch in and help so when we all go back to in person learning and the weather changes, Maryland schools will be ready.
