Petition updateTell Oracle to Move Forward Java EE as a Critical Part of the Global IT IndustryMoving Forward with Jakarta EE

Java EE Guardians
Mar 4, 2018
As some of you are aware, the Eclipse Foundation has now selected a new name for Java EE based on community input (https://mmilinkov.wordpress.com/2018/02/26/and-the-name-is/). As the Java EE Guardians had hoped, the Jakarta EE option won by a large margin. While the loss of the Java brand is disappointing, there is still much to celebrate. The renaming represents a fresh start for a very important part of the overall open standard Java platform under truly vendor-neutral, open source governance. Although it is still early, the Jakarta EE name is symbolically important and the name has so far still been relatively well received.
To take stock of things, where we are now is significantly different from the very uncertain times when this petition was opened. We have had a solid Java EE 8 release that is well on it's way to being adopted widely. Java EE as a technology is now outside the controlling influence of a single commercial entity, addressing the fundamental issue this petition and the Java EE Guardians were trying to solve. Please be assured that none of this would have happened without your vocal support.
At this juncture, it is long overdue to close this petition and rightfully declare victory. Just as we could not have gotten here without you, the Java EE Guardians would like to ask you to remain engaged with us. There are exciting times ahead, but also many unknowns. Hopefully with your help, we will continue to both help contribute to the success of Jakarta EE and keep a close eye to make sure the best interests of the community is kept secure. The best way you can stay engaged with is following us on Twitter (https://twitter.com/javaee_guardian) or joining our Google Group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/javaee-guardians). At the bare minimum, you can read our newly minted blog (https://javaee-guardians.io/blog/).
Thank you again and let's keep working together to help move enterprise Java forward!
