The Issue

Last January, king tides and heavy rain flooded neighborhoods across Larkspur, closing roads and putting Highway 101 underwater. Residents said they'd never seen anything like it.

Areas hit hardest in Larkspur include:
- Lucky Drive Apartments
- Larkspur Marina
- Larkspur Isle
- Golden Gate Trailer Park
- The Trader Joe's shopping center

These are homes, families, and businesses our community depends on, and they flood again and again with no plan to protect them.

This year's king tides are expected to be even higher, and El Niño is already raising coastal water levels ahead of what could be a heavy storm season. The City of Larkspur has shared flood preparedness resources (linked below), but it hasn't declared an emergency or set aside funding to protect these neighborhoods.

Our neighbors in San Rafael aren't waiting. On October 5, the San Rafael City Council declared a local emergency because of increased flood risk from El Niño this winter. Larkspur should do the same, before the water arrives and not after.

We're asking the Larkspur City Council to:
1. Declare a local state of emergency for flooding
2. Allocate funding for flood prevention and response this season
3. Share a clear, public flood preparedness plan with residents

Please sign if you live or work in Larkspur and want our community protected this winter.
