Large Raw Sewage Tanks - Notify San Mateo Residents

Large Raw Sewage Tanks - Notify San Mateo Residents

The Issue

The San Mateo community is concerned about proposed plans for raw sewage storage tanks in densely populated residential neighborhoods.

The community was not properly informed since the postcards received disclosed a seemingly benign "Storage Facility" for the Clean Water Program.

Two meetings to provide community feedback were held back-to-back on August 23, 2016 and then again on August 25, 2016.

The meetings were hurried, did not fully address the community’s questions, and did not provide sufficient time for the community to provide comments.

This petition is to request the City to operate in accordance of the Brown Act and:

1. to schedule and hold at least one additional community meeting before making any further decisions on the sewage storage tank alternatives,

2. to clearly notify residents about the meeting agenda,

3. offer all residents an opportunity to voice their opinions before making further decisions, and

4. remedy the process of notification so that residents are properly informed on City proposals that have a material impact to aspects including public safety, quality of life, and financial well-being.
