Eliminate photos from CVs and "Native English speaker only" language in applications

The Issue

It is time for our international education recruiting agencies to take a stance against the systemic oppression that we see. Be a leader in our global international school community and show that you care about every applicant-Be the change.

1. Remove the requirement for applicants to include a photo on the CV. Please do not have a photo section as an option on an application.  

2. Do not allow schools to state "Native Speakers Only" in the job description or requirements.  We live in countries where citizens are taught only in English and have excellent English-speaking skills, yet they would not be considered Native English speakers because they grew up speaking a different language.  It is time to open up international schools to a multi-lingual, international teaching community.

With these changes, we can begin to create more opportunities for non-white and diverse applicants to apply for international school positions, which will further improve and enrich our schools.

While we implement the technical aspects of this change, we will advise all applicants that this section will soon be eliminated and uploading a photo is unnecessary. We fully support the elimination of the term “native English speaker” in job requirements and will advocate for this across the industry. We will inform schools that we will not allow the use of this term in job postings or descriptions they post to our site. Should we become aware of a posting that uses this term, we will take the necessary steps to remove it.
