At the Langley City Council meeting tonight, both a draft resolution and a draft ordinance will be presented. It's important that we show up and show our support for an ordinance to protect our immigrant, undocumented, and Muslim neighbors.
1) FIRST ACTION ITEM: Come to the Council meeting at 5:30PM at Langley United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall. Bring your stories, experiences, and values. Be prepared to tell the Council why it's important to you that we pass a strong ordinance and provide real protections for those most at risk under the Trump administration.
The draft ordinance, which you can view here: http://www.langleywa.org/3-20-17%20agenda%20packet.pdf (scroll to page 19), is very strong! It includes the key protections we've been advocating for AND the mayor assures us that it has been vetted by the City Attorney to assure it doesn't present a conflict with our electeds' Oaths of Office.
2) SECOND ACTION ITEM: Please write a note of thanks to the Mayor and Council for presenting a draft ordinance that both provides strong protections for our neighbors and also doesn't conflict with their Oaths of Office. It's a win/win! Email them today, here: mayor@langleywa.org and council@langleywa.org
We'd like to deliver our petition tonight at the Council Meeting, with the signatures of many local residents who are in favor of passing this strong ordinance. If you haven't yet done so...
3) THIRD ACTION ITEM: Share the petition with your friends here: goo.gl/Qtnl3V
Thank you for your support! It is very exciting to have a strong ordinance on the docket for consideration tonight. See you there!
