The Issue

My final plea x

Hi ***

Just following on from my message today as I tried to call you re. the house etc and proposed move out in a few weeks.

I’d just like to catch up really and see where we’re at and if the landlords have had any more consideration to us staying in the home we have made ours the last 2 years?

As you are aware, this house was a dream for us and we kept on trying to apply and refused only to see the house sit empty for months and reduce in price for which we were eventually accepted. Our first year here we settled in and I met The landlady who thanked me so much for looking after the house and being a good tenant after the nightmare tenants previously trashing the place and playing loud music all the time plus smoking drugs in the shed, much to the neighbours disgust. We moved in and we really made it our home, for Alfie it is perfect and as well for me being a single mum on my own having my family close by it really was a dream move, but it was financially in agreement of the contract the upper end of my budget.

I feel that the relationship broke down when I met the landlady who made us feel so welcome and supported, to be told weeks before the contract renewal that the rent was going up and we either had to cover the increase or leave... I explained my situation and was upset really as I felt that she knew where I was at and after seeing how well we look after and consider the house as our own, yes I don’t always have time to trim the bushes as she likes, but I’m a single working mum and my dad helps with that, when he can.

I explained that there were a few problems with the house I had fixed or had not complained about so as not to bother them, e.g. fence panels which to be fair I could replace at minimal cost and also the shed which my dad spent a lot of time repairing at no cost, I didn’t feel the increase was fair and it really pushed me only to be told I had failed as a tenant not reporting issues and therefore no consideration would be given and either agree to the increase or move out.

Alfie and I have moved 6 times in the last 6 years due to problems with an abusive ex partner which has nothing to do with the house discussion, but it does when I moved here on the basis this was my top end and I vowed to look after the house and have a trustworthy relationship. When that happened it threw me and I felt like because the house sat empty and the landlords had no option but to reduce the price, I was being penalised not for the current value of the property a year later, but for the value they had lost having to reduce.

I had major problems with the old lady next door and tried to resolve this myself, then when the house was sold I came home to a 3 foot trench in the garden our side with no warning, no security and no consideration at all to the fact we were now adjoining a building site. This was in March and I contacted the landlords when it first started and they came round very concerned, I thought the concern included us, but it seems it was just about measurements and parameters. Zero thought was given to us and safety for my son was totally disregarded, I was just told by the landlords that it was happening I didn’t need to know any detail and that they had agreed it and would let me know when the builders would be accessing the property and digging up land.

Unfortunately this was at my lowest point in my personal life and I was signed off by a doctor from work due to health concerns and stress and to take time out at home and recuperate... 7 days a week from 8amonwards since then we have had demolition to the point the house shakes, the builders are in our back garden, music blasting and diggers a complete building site and at the time it was the one thing that put me under. Due to personal circumstances, the pressure of work and this demolition next door I reacted badly and said I needed out for my own sake.

As I explained in the email this was not something I wanted, clinical depression is something that unfortunately can happen to anyone and I look back now and I’m in such a better place, my apologies have been stated to the landlords and at no time have I defaulted on the rent. I’ve been more than considerate with what is going on next door, which doesn’t see signs of immediate completion. I had issues with heating and radiators which left us freezing in winter and apart from asking for a rent discount, same as with the building works, I’ve continued, we’ve continued to be good tenants and care for the property as our home.

The move out date is getting imminent now and I’d like to ask why we are being forced to leave when I’ve made it clear this is our home, Alfie is settled and yes the rent is my top end but I work hard to make sure my little boy is happy. We have not been given any valid reason as to why we need to leave, if the house will be up for rent at a higher price, why have we not been offered or informed of this, yes I had my issues 6 months ago but again this was medically confirmed and totally under control, I never defaulted or was late on the rent or let the property go into any condition that would be deemed as bad... I still continue to live 7 days a week with a building site next door and I’ve said nothing, not complained once, only to the builders or the owners who have now become friends and actually feel sad we are going. We have a lot of friends here as neighbours, we really do and they see us as the same. If it’s a simple case of wanting an extra £25 a month to see good tenants leave and actually have nowhere to go at present, to justify the advertising fees and also take the chance the house won’t be destroyed again by idiots who don’t have any respect as before we lived here?

I’d like to know the reasons why please they are adamant we need to leave and would like full justification as tenants we have rights also, we love this house and we are happy and despite any dispute previously, the landlords are good landlords and I’d like to please ask for the final time if we can stay based on the current terms and just get on together.

The house sat empty for a while previously and to be fair with a building site next door I can’t see that it will be snapped up, but I may be wrong.

Thanks and sorry for the long message but it’s make or break time and I’ve got a little boy to think about, I’m happy for the landlords to read this.

Fresh start or not just need to know.
