Retract plan to discontinue Service 700/700A / Amend 972 to serve Bukit Timah / Newton

Retract plan to discontinue Service 700/700A / Amend 972 to serve Bukit Timah / Newton

The Issue

Bukit Panjang residents are concerned with the proposed transportation amendments to service 700/700A/972 from 16 August 2020.

From 16 August 2020,
Service 700 and 700A will cease operations
Service 171 will be amended to operate between Yishun and Bukit Panjang
Service 972 will be amended to serve Bukit Timah / Dunearn Road, Newton MRT and Scotts Road

Service 171 amendment is OK with proper alternatives.
However, Service 700/700A withdrawal and Service 972 amendments will affect Bukit Panjang residents greatly because:

Service 700/700A
- Allow commuters staying along Petir Road / Eco Santuary / Treehouse / Foresque / Almond Crescent / GESS / Dunearn Road to take a direct bus to Newton / Orchard / Suntec.
- With the withdrawal, there will only be Service 966 and 973 that does not provide fast connection to Newton MRT and Orchard Road.

Service 972
- Ease passenger loading on 190
- Allow for smooth transit to the Downtown Line at Stevens for Bukit Panjang residents.
- The current proposed amendment will result in residents having to walk a long distance over the Bukit Timah Flyover at SCGS to transfer to the Downtown Line. It will also result in commuters packing up service 190 again when 972 was introduced initially to ease capacity for Service 190.

Our petition proposes to retract the withdrawal of Service 700/700A and keep service 972's original routing come 16 August 2020.
