Land O’Lakes: Follow through on your animal welfare promises!

The Issue

Hi, my name is Nikolas Stavrou and I live in Minnesota. I'm creating this petition, along with The Humane League, to shed light on corporate greed and animal cruelty.

When you think of Land O'Lakes you may think of butter, but it sells much more than that, including products from caged hens. The company uses so many eggs, there are over 850,000 egg-laying hens in Land O’Lakes’ supply chain each year.

With growing concern from consumers regarding animal welfare and sustainability, hundreds of companies have pledged to improve their animal welfare policies, including Land O’Lakes. Companies like Nestlé and Hormel Brands are already 100% cage-free while others like General Mills and Conagra Brands are not only reporting their progress, but have a plan on how they will fulfill their commitments.

Meanwhile, Land O'Lakes is failing to publicly report on a promise it made years ago and continues to keep consumers in the dark. What is Land O'Lakes hiding?

As a Fortune 500 company that had annual sales of $19 billion in 2022, Land O’Lakes has the power to address the animal cruelty in its supply chain. So why hasn’t it taken public action toward fulfilling its cage-free egg commitment to consumers?

Hundreds of thousands of chickens suffer in Land O’Lakes supply chain every day. They are confined in dirty, barren cages so small, each hen cannot even spread her wings. She lives her life in the space equivalent to a sheet of paper. These hens are sentient beings who cannot engage in natural behaviors like dust-bathing, perching, and nesting. Do we really want to give our hard-earned money to a company that supports such a cruel and archaic practice?

Join me in fighting corporate greed by urging Land O'Lakes to publicly report on the promise it made to stop supporting the cruel caging of hens!
