Lancaster City Council- Call for a Ceasefire in Gaza

Lancaster City Council- Call for a Ceasefire in Gaza

The Issue

We the undersigned petition the Council to write to the Prime Minister calling for him to support an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

We are residents of the Lancaster district, who are people of a variety of faiths, none, and of different heritages. We have been deeply affected and are horrified by the loss of innocent life in Gaza, Israel and the West Bank.

We condemn the violence and particularly the killing of children in the Middle East.

We are deeply troubled by the rise in our district of antisemitism and Islamophobia.

We believe peace will only come from a permanent ceasefire and meaningful negotiations.

We ask you, our Council, to write to the Prime Minister calling for him to support an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Unfortunately, a motion submitted to the Chief Executive by Lancaster City Green Councillors calling for a ceasefire, was rejected on constitutional grounds.

This petition will allow residents to express their support for all levels of government to call for a ceasefire.
