STOP!! Cat & Dog Puppy Mills & Backyard Breeders
STOP!! Cat & Dog Puppy Mills & Backyard Breeders
The Issue
Cats and dogs should breed only 2 litters, then get spayed or neutered and be found forever loving homes.
Puppy mills, that mass-produce dogs and cats to be sold in pet stores, or through classified ads or on the Internet, and backyard breeders, are more concerned about profit than animal welfare.
Most adult animals are continuously bred until they can no longer produce and then are destroyed or discarded.
Some places have an animal breed 3 litters in 1 year.
Animals in puppy mills are confined to overcrowded cages with hardly any shelter from the elements and are made to sit and sleep in their own excrement.
Some animals from breeders hardly receive any veterinary care.
Kittens and puppies can be taken from their mothers at such an early age that they end up suffering from severe behavioral issues.
Inbreeding can cause health problems.
Animals gotten from puppy mills or backyard breeders may seem well at first, but then later display health issues such as hip defects or parasites.
Puppy mills and backyard breeders take away the chance of so many other cats and dogs that are in reputable shelters from finding a forever home.
The British Columbia government was going to pass a regulation back in 2016 that would require breeders to register and follow standards, but they dropped the project (learn more here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/agriculture-seafood/animals-and-crops/animal-welfare/dog-and-cat-breeding
So pleasesupport this petition and ask the B.C. Minister of Agriculture to follow through on their commitment to regulating cat and dog breeders, including that breeders only let their animals breed 2 litters then get spayed or neutered and found forever loving homes.
