Clapham residents Ayesha and Safiya started this petition when Sarah Everard disappeared while walking home in March. Her tragic death was confirmed a week later.
Lambeth council immediately listened to the demands of the petition and took action to install extra lighting on the Common and they are working with the police on whether extra lighting or CCTV should be installed.
Ayesha and Safiya want to thank all the 30,000 people who have supported this campaign, because it worked to put pressure on the council to take swift action. They are now calling this campaign a success in helping to light Clapham Common, and will send a message to you in future if they want to restart the campaign.
Ayesha says "there is still so much to be done for women’s safety, especially at night time, but tangible campaigns like this are an important step in the right direction for listening to what women want to feel safer."
