Over the summer period the waste and rubbish left on the common is getting too much. With multiple picnicers and gatherings on the green to enjoy the space and weather, lots of rubbish is generated. However, due to the lack of refuse bins, often groups will leave their rubbish on the grass and leave. Either because there aren't any bins nearby, or because the bins near are overflowing. This was particularly apparent over the recent late May Bank Holiday (https://www.instagram.com/p/CPkcfe7HRYP/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) . We need more bins to reduce the amount of rubbish left on the common. Not only will it be more likely that people enjoying the common will dispose of their rubbish appropriately, but it will also mean that there will be less need for litter pickers etc the next day, thus reducing the cost to council.

We also ask for the litter pickers and refuse disposal lorries to be scheduled for an earlier time in the morning. Currently morning dog walkers and runners are having to experience huge amounts of waste from the day before, making it dangerous for the pets of Clapham especially.

We realise that it is our responsibility to dispose of our rubbish appropriately, but believe these steps will make it so much easier to respect our beautiful common.
