End the sale of commercially bred puppies at the B&I Pet Center

The Issue

Research by multiple organizations has concluded that 98-99% of puppies sold in retail stores come from commercial breeding facilities (puppy mills). Stores that sell dogs from mills perpetuate the cycle of animal cruelty, and often are not honest with customers about the dogs' past, like where the puppies came from, and what the lives of the parents are like. We are asking the Lakewood City Council to require the B&I Pet Center to stop receiving "shipments" of puppies to be sold, and instead feature adoptable dogs from local rescue groups or humane society. Many other cities in the US have adopted similar ordinances, such as San Diego, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
