Officer Mike Wiley of the Lakewood Police Department has a disturbing history of violence against young black men.

In 2013, Officer Mike Wiley led the SWAT team that murdered Leonard Thomas, an unarmed Black man, in front of his 4-year old son. Wiley was heard calling "Jackpot!" over the radio and then complimenting Officer Brian Markert, the sniper that murdered Thomas, on his "freakin' million dollar shot". A jury found Officer Wiley, Officer Markert, and Officer Mike Zaro guilty, which resulted in a state record $15 million lawsuit. Mike Zaro is now the Chief of the Lakewood Police Department.

Since then, Officer Mike Wiley has seen multiple promotions, commendations, and leads the Lakewood Police Department's annual active shooter training.

On May 1st of 2020, Officer Mike Wiley murdered 26 year old Said Joquin, an unarmed Black man, during a traffic stop in Lakewood, in which their body cameras were allegedly turned off. Currently, Officer Wiley is on paid leave awaiting investigation.

Officer Mike Wiley has a violent and troubling history with using excessive, unlawful force against young, unarmed Black men. The Lakewood Police Department must be held accountable for these injustices and immediately fire Officer Mike Wiley to prevent any further deaths in our community and serve Justice for Said Joquin.
