This morning my family and I, along with our neighbors were awoken to the sound and crash of a car that hit the side of our house. Somehow or another, the driver lost control while making a left turn from SB Bloomfield onto EB Lemming, hopped the curb, and smashed into our house. Thankfully no-one was seriously was hurt, and the driver was able to walk away from the scene.
Once again, this is exactly what I’m talking about. This intersection is a recipe for disaster. Sure, it was during the day, but, once again, the stretch between Del Amo and Centralia is too far, and drivers create a drag strip out of it. I’m certain that if the City of Lakewood had installed a light here instead of insisting that nothing was wrong beforehand, this would have been prevented. Just something that would force people to slow down and pay more attention to their surroundings would make everyone in our neighborhood have more peace of mind.
Like I said, thankfully no-one was seriously injured this time, but let’s not forget the two young girls who were killed in March while crossing the street here, and the third victim that was struck and killed several years ago.
I’m not sure what it will take for the City of Lakewood to act upon this problem intersection, but I would think that a car in the side of a house would give a good hint.
Please don’t let the City of Lakewood and Public Safety Director Joshua Yordt forget about this issue, because I can say with certainty that the community will not back down until something is done here.
