Lakeway City Council + ZAPCO-Lakeway: Keep Lakeway Beautiful! No car dealerships!

The Issue

Car dealerships don't belong in the City of Lakeway. That’s why we prohibit them. We urge you NOT to change our city ordinances + zoning restrictions to allow a dealership.

Here's why:

1. Community Integrity. Dealerships don't belong in (or near) neighborhoods.

2. Property Values. Dealerships have a negative impact on property values decreasing value between 10-20% within a five mile radius.

3. 620 is a Scenic Highway and it should be preserved as such.

4. Current traffic is a Congested Nightmare. According to TxDOT, 40-50,000 cars travel from FM 2222 to Hwy 71 (daily). This year alone there have been 155 crashes on this stretch. Building a car dealership here will increase traffic, pollution, and noise as well as create road hazards + nuisances.

5. Lakeway is known for our ‘Dark Skies’. Putting lights 20-22 acres of land - no matter how dimly lit - will light up the area, cause light pollution + compromise our ‘dark skies’.

6. Safety. Should a massive fuel refill tank really be built just feet away from a residential area? Should there be test drives on ANY roads in Lakeway?

7. Crime. Car dealerships create crime. According to the Austin Police Department, there have been almost 2,000 car thefts this year. This doesn't include all of the crimes at car dealerships such as the dealership that had 200+ sets of tires stolen last month.

8. Domino Effect. If we open the door and allow one dealership into Lakeway, others will come creating a domino effect. RR 620 will become another 'motor mile'.

9. Impervious Cover Codes. The proposed construction may potentially abandon our impervious cover code restriction with further development of the land.

10. Lakeway Lifestyle. We live here for the quality of life and the small town feel. When we move here, we understand we may need to ‘go into town’ from time to time and that’s just fine with us.
