If you haven’t yet heard the amazing news, here it is! The King County Council voted unanimously on Monday to impose a 6 month moratorium on industrial zones within a 1/4 mile of the Cedar River! A HUGE thank you to Councilman Reagan Dunn, for presenting this emergency case before the council! Many of us watched the meeting via the council’s live stream. It was not an easy win, there were a few council members who questioned the purpose and necessity. Councilman Dunn did an outstanding job expressing our concerns, not only about the proposed asphalt plant lot, but also for all lots that have potentially been improperly zoned or run the risk of an asphalt plant situation happening in their backyards in the future! Thank you in advance to the King County Council, Dept of Permitting and legal teams who will spend a great deal of time over the next few months evaluating each of these lots. Friends, this does not mean that we have six months to sit back and watch them work. We have to be vigilant in our efforts to understand the documents as they are released and to voice our questions or comments. Continue to question the zoning in the comprehensive plan and specifically anything related to the SEPA documents related to the Lakeside application. A public hearing has been scheduled for January 8. More information will be provided as it is received. Continue to share the petition! Get your neighbors involved and anyone who lives in King County who wants to protect our natural resources and our rural areas! Great work everyone!
