Lakes Region Sports Coalition:

Lakes Region Sports Coalition is a group of sport industry stakeholders, business leaders and tourism professionals who are in support of the development of a sports complex at the former state school property in Laconia. Our vision is to develop a portion, 80-100 acres, of state school property into the premier indoor/outdoor sports complex in the northeast. Sports have the ability to add to value to the community, health, and wellness of its citizens and generate tourism-related revenue through tournaments and events. Our vision is to turn what was once a controversial and neglected piece of state-owned property into a unique and valuable asset, that showcases NH, for residents and visitors alike. A sports complex will enhance the future development of the state school property and support the efforts laid out in the Master Plan for the City of Laconia.

Background of Lakeshore Redevelopment Commission:

Governor Sununu commissioned the Lakeshore Redevelopment Commission last year to study the feasibility and redevelopment of the 250+/- acre parcel of land on the Northside of Laconia. This property was once the State School as well as the former prison. The commission has been tasked with finding redevelopment options that will create jobs and have a positive impact on the economy.

The Lakeshore Redevelopment Commission hired an economic development agency, Camion Associates out of Saratoga Springs, NY to conduct a market analysis and propose best scenarios for redevelopment. They presented their findings last month and identified three potential redevelopment scenarios.

1. Residential
2. Resort
3. Sports Complex

More information on their three concepts can be found here - http://das.nh.gov/lrpc/documents/strategic-planning/camoin/summary-redevelopment-scenarios-lakes-region-state-of-nh.pdf

Our Task

The Lakeshore Redevelopment Commission has hired NBBJ to conduct additional research based on Camion Associates findings and develop a Master Plan by the end of 2018. The Commission meets at the end of July to further discuss the options. Our task as the Lakes Region Sports Coalition is to circle the wagons and bring together sports industry stakeholders and supporters of the Sports Complex concept to convince the Commission to further research the potential of a sports complex for our community.

We have already engaged with Sports Facility Advisors, the leading sports facility development company in the United States to conduct a feasibility study and economic impact analysis for this development. Once the Commission approves this step, we will work closely with SFA to develop the size and scope of the development pertaining to specific sports offerings and facilities to be built.

Please join the Lakes Region Sports Coalition as we work to bring a world-class sports complex to our community.
