The Lake of Two Mountains High School (LTMHS) decency code prohibits the following: “skirts/skorts or shorts that are too short (higher than mid-thigh), Tube, tank, backless, and halter tops, Spaghetti strap camisoles, Visible cleavage, Form-fitting leggings without a mid-thigh length top, Undershirt styled tops (singlets/jerseys), Bare midriffs and bare navels” (Section 8.1/Appendix A). When a student searches for the aforementioned clothing items in a store, they will most likely find them in the “women’s” section of a clothing store. When these provisions are enforced, we feel that they sexualize and disparage students, in addition to creating issues of educational equity, wherein feminine students are missing class time to be dress coded.
