Our family has been living in the Lake Linganore Community in Frederick county, outside of Washington DC for 12 years now.  We moved here because we love nature and wanted our children to grow up in an environment where they could be exposed by the beauty of nature.

Over the past several years our Home Owners Association has endorsed the development of houses through construction companies that come in, indiscriminately clear all the trees, including large, beautiful trees and then construct houses on the area. Yet, they advertise as a beautiful lake front community.  

While I understand that expansion and construction is needed for an active and vibrant community, I am concerned about the indiscriminate cutting of these large and beautiful trees, seeing the disruption to the ecosystem, the subsequent erosion and general lack of care during construction.  

The construction on Eagle Head Drive did not spare any large trees and the whole piece of land was cleared away. The subsequent erosion into the stream that feed the lake is of special concern as well (http://friendsoffrederickcounty.org/citizens-lose-again-in-taxpayers-v-bocc-frederick-city-drinking-water-soon-to-be-dirtier/). We noticed a pair of bald eagles fleeing the area when the construction started, and suspected their nests had been destroyed as a result of the cutting of trees.

We have the Forest Conservation Act of Maryland (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/forests/programapps/newFCA.asp), but it doesn't seem to work to protect the trees in our once beautiful community. Our lake is now a dirty brown and little remains of the once beautiful area where we could watch Bald Eagles teach their chicks to catch fish from the lake.

Please help us to not only stop the destruction of beautiful areas, where with care and effort trees could be saved, animals can keep some of their habitat and humans could live in harmony with nature. If this could happen with our community, many more may follow if the builders are not being kept responsible.
