STOP PREMIER INN COMING TO KESWICK – we need your support

National hotel chain Premier Inn are proposing to build a new 71-bedroom hotel with restaurant in the centre of Keswick.  We are calling for the local Keswick community and anyone interested in maintaining an independent, charming, environmentally-sound Keswick to sign this petition to stop Premier Inn coming to the town.

Major reasons why Premier Inn's planning application should be rejected

1. Changing the heritage of Keswick - a town built on tourism over centuries by hard-working, independent business owners including shops, B&Bs, hotels, hospitality suppliers and other professionals. A national chain encroaching on the town, potentially undercutting prices and not utilising any local suppliers, could have a devastating effect destroying all that hard work and reaping the benefits of the town's success, whilst transferring all profits to shareholders outside the county.
2. Pushing the town's infrastructure to the limits - causing unnecessary congestion through the town, putting strains on the access road and the town's utilities in particular the sewage system 
3. Lack of car parking spaces - constructing a new building with not enough on-site parking spaces to cover the requirements of hotel and restaurant guests and staff
4. Over-development of the site - a construction, which towers above neighbouring buildings and blocking the view of Skiddaw from the famous Cumbrian Way/Howrah's footpath
5. Using "30 more jobs" - as an incentive to obtain planning permission, when Keswick has no unemployment and has a problem filling existing jobs
