Why this petition matters

Started by Bella Pehrson

In my local area, an amusement park called Lagoon in Farmington, Utah, has caged animals and has used them as entertainment for many, many years. They boast to be the "second largest zoo in Utah," despite how miniscule their enclosures are. Many animals, ranging from African Lions to Kangaroos to Deer, are trapped in this roller-coaster amusment park.

To see the animals, visitors must go on a train ride. As I have been on this train many times to see the animals conditions, I also noticed how disrepectful many of the riders are. People will yell, mock, and shine their phone flashlights right at the animals. The train driver also choos a loud horn, often frightening the animals and causing them stress. The train rides usually go from 11 a.m. until 10-11 p.m., and the horn is used on every train ride, all day long, every day of the summer.

Their enclosures are made of concrete flooring, steel fences, and are very, very small. These animals do not belong in these prisons- and especially not for "human entertainment" or to earn more profits. These animals deserve to be free, either in their natural homes or in loving sanctuaries where they will be taken care of until the end of their days.

Please sign this petition and spread this on your social medias to raise awareness for these animals. Let's free and retire these beautiful creatures so they can live their lives to the fullest.

How would you feel if you were caged up, mocked, and had horns blasted at you all day, soley for entertainment?

UPDATED INFORMATION -
There are sanctuaries in Colorado that have contacted Lagoon and are willing to take the 9 big cats from Lagoon and pay all transportation fees. However, Lagoon is stubborn and does not want to release the animals to a permanent and loving home where they can finally experience true nature and be free of pollution, human traffic, loud and disturbing noises, and horrible enclosures made from concrete and metal, where there is no access to natural rivers, grass, or anything remotely like their natural habitat.

Lagoon also has around 70 violations by the USDA and does not meet the bare minimum standards of accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). You can visit http://911animalabuse.com/lagoon-amusement-park-utah/ for more detailed information about the citations and violations Lagoon has received since 1997, with the most recent violation occurring in 2013.

Sadly, Lagoon boasts about being the "second largest zoo in Utah," but fails to have adequate enclosures and has not changed the Wild Kingdom Train ride since its opening. Lagoon has been accused of lion neglect, and has also been known to send their animals to the slaughterhouse when they no longer "meet expectations," and has been recorded by the USDA. The UARC has also had many disputes with Lagoon, as Lagoon often misuses water when protests are occurring, and also has denied accusations and rejects any responsibility of cruelty to their animals. You can visit this link https://kutv.com/news/local/lagoon-responds-to-video-of-one-its-lion-in-distress to explore more on this issue.

Please contact ASPCA and USDA APHIS and communicate this issue with them. The 60+ animals at Lagoon deserve sanctuary, they deserve peace and stability in a home where they are no longer used as commodities.
