The Issue

Recently, the Lafayette Parish School System came out with a new hoodie rule. Now the school system only permits outer-wear with no hood, or jackets with zippers. This change has impacted the students greatly. The school system threatens the children with behavioral marks if failure to comply with the new rules, but sometimes low cost hoodies are all a family can afford. Hoodies also impact the mentality of some students, wishing to hide their body, or just simple fashion to feel good about starting the new school year. Some schools have spirit hoodies, and now with this new rule, this is utterly ridiculous. If some students aren't financially stable, and trying to keep warm in classrooms, they'd take out their hoodie, and be ready to learn some more but if there is a problem with hoodies why aren't there problems with sweatshirts, or jackets? There's no need to ban the hoods off of hoodies. Sometimes hoodies are essential to not getting your head and hair wet. Louisiana gets TONS of rain, so students look towards hoodies to keep safe and not get sick. Hoodies are completely essential to students and maintain warmth, protection and order. I hope that the Lafayette Parish School System can see past why hoodies aren't allowed.
