Lack of Alternative Routes and Safety Risks on the new Triq is Sarg Road making
The Issue
Petition to Transport Malta and Msida Local Council
This petition addresses the concerns of daily road users and residents regarding the safety and accessibility of Triq is Sarg and Gemma Portelli Street in Msida, particularly during rainy seasons when Valley Road frequently floods. The petition aims to seek a solution that allows the new road, Triq is Sarg, to function as a two-way road rather than just a one-way, providing a safer and more reliable alternative route.
Concerns About Traffic and Flooding
The new road, Triq is Sarg, serves as a traffic relief and shortcut to Valley Road Msida and surrounding areas. However, it is currently designated as a one-way road and is considered unsafe to use when Valley Road floods, which happens every time it rains. This situation forces drivers to either risk passing through flooded areas or face significant difficulties accessing alternative routes [1] [2].
Impact on Residents and Traffic Congestion
Increasing traffic on Triq Regionali, especially near the Santa Venera roundabout, is expected to cause congestion that will hinder residents of Triq Gemma Portelli from entering or exiting their parking lots. This congestion, combined with flooding on Valley Road, exacerbates safety and accessibility issues for both residents and commuters [3].
Lack of Alternative Routes and Safety Risks
Currently, no viable alternative routes exist for drivers when Valley Road is flooded. This lack of alternatives poses a direct risk to vehicle safety and driver well-being, as navigating flooded roads can cause damage and endanger passengers. The petitioners urge Transport Malta and Msida Local Council to address this safety concern by enabling two-way traffic on Triq is Sarg, which would benefit residents and road users by providing a safer, accessible detour during the rainy season [4].
Call to Action
The petition requests signatures to support the appeal for Transport Malta and Msida Local Council to find a practical solution for the use of Triq is Sarg as a two-way road. This change aims to improve traffic flow, enhance safety during flooding, and provide a reliable alternative route for the community [4].
Thank you for considering this important matter.
Regards.
This is addressed in particular to all those road users of Gemma Portelli Street on a daily basis to commute the road direction or find an alternative route to Valley road Msida when flood.
The new road of Triq is Sarg passing to and from Triq il Regionali Msida is a traffic relief road and a short cut to reach Valley Road Msida and areas around.
Moreover, it is NOT a safe road one can take when Valley Road in Msida is flooded and as everyone is aware it will flood every time it rains!
This letter is intended to find a solution to a two way road not only a ONE WAY!
With increasing traffic on the Triq Regionali going to roundabout of Santa Venera it will be difficult for us the residents of Triq Gemma Portelli to access the enter or exit of our parking lot due to every day traffic congestion.
Last but not least it will create severe issues during rainy days when the valley Road Msida get completely flooded & authorities will urge road users to find alternative routes!
At this point in time there are no alternative routes and we fear this will have a direct impact on the safety of all drivers who would have no other option but to pass from a flooded area which will potentially damage our cars and endanger our safety.
We , thus kindly ask you to sign this petition so Transport Malta and Msida Local Council can find a solution for the residents using such alternative new road Triq is Sarg so will benefit both ways in accessing and avoiding the Valley Road when rainy season .
Thank you
Regards
