Peter Barden started this petition to Labour, Scottish National Party, Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru, Green Party, Independents

The general election on December 12th 2019 may be our last chance to stop Brexit, or failing that, stop a hard Brexit. Nigel Farage is hardballing Boris Johnson right now by threatening to split the vote if Johnson doesn’t ditch his deal and go for a hard Brexit instead. The polls predict a Conservative majority and so the only chance Remainers and those opposed to a hard Brexit have is for electoral pacts to be made between the Remain parties.

We call on Labour, the Scottish National Party, the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru, the Green Party and Independents to agree electoral pacts whereby Remain parties who are unlikely to win a seat, based on previous electoral results, don’t field a candidate. This will give the strongest Remain party in each constituency the greatest chance of winning their seat and is our best chance of stopping the Conservatives gaining a majority.

We ask these parties to put aside their differences and unite over this common goal. While Jeremy Corbyn is far from the Liberal Democrat’s first choice for Prime Minister, we ask would you rather have Boris and his harder take on Brexit?! The Conservatives argue a vote for the SNP is a vote for a second Scottish independence referendum. The reality is that it’s Westminster who will decide if a vote is allowed and it’s the Scottish people who will decide the fate of Scotland, not the SNP. The truth is more SNP MPs and less Conservative MPs means a stronger Remain alliance.

This is our chance to prove we’re now more than just 48%. We ask the Remain parties to put aside their differences and unite to stop Brexit once and for all!
