The situation in Gaza has only worsened each day. New indescribable horrors are etched into our hearts as we witness a genocide happening right now, financed and fuelled directly by western governments.

On July 4th there will be a General Election in the UK. Current polling predicts a landslide victory for Labour over the Conservative party.

Although this is great news for many of us who have been against the Conservative government for years, Labour, and Keir Starmer specifically, have failed to reflect the concern the vast majority of its members have for the situation in Gaza. 

This petition acts as a way of demonstrating to the Labour party that they must commit now to a promise that our taxes will not be complicit in financing this genocide and that they will not send any more arms or ammunition.

By signing you are stating that, as a UK resident, you will not vote for the Labour party until it publicly denounces the actions of the Israeli government, recognises what is taking place as a genocide, and formally states that no future weapons or money will be provided to the Israeli government until (at least) there is peace in Palestine. 

Even after the UN's top court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), issued a ruling stating that Israel must “immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part," the Israeli government ruthlessly bombed the supposed "safe zone" it had designated for Palestinians forced to flee their homes.

We have all seen and heard thousands of stories of children murdered at the hands of a government which receives money and weaponry directly from the UK government. 

From a report created by Action On Armed Violence (AOAV) we can see that "on the 9th April, 2024, the UK Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, stated that the UK will not suspend arms to Israel after “reviewing the latest legal advice.” Cameron asserted that continuing the transfer of arms to Israel put the UK in line with “other like minded countries”.

And in response to the "AOAV’s request for information on arms export licences since October 7th" the UK government declined to respond "citing exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act."
