Labour government-- stop Forced payments on Elderly Citizens by Taxing their savings
The Issue
My mother, at 88 years old, is being unfairly burdened with a £100 monthly payment to the Labour government after decades of hard work. Both my parents worked tirelessly - sometimes working two jobs at once - from the age of 16 in order to provide a secure and comfortable home for their retirement. With the passing of my father due to Dementia in 2021, the financial responsibility solely rests on my mother's shoulders - an obligation she should not have to bear in her twilight years.
What we are witnessing here is an infringement of the rights of senior citizens who have honestly worked and contributed to this society. Statistics show that the number of elderly people living in poverty in the UK is a growing concern. According to Age UK, nearly 2 million pensioners are living below the poverty line (Age UK, 2020). It's unacceptable for the government to impose additional financial burdens on this vulnerable group.
This isn't just about my mother's plight but about all the elderly who have dedicated their lives to building a future, only for it to be snatched away by unreasonable financial impositions. This money isn't a bonus handed out to them, it's their hard-earned savings.
Let's stand up for our elderly, urging the Labour Government to abolish this financial imposition on our senior citizens. Please sign this petition to protect the rights and dignity of our parents. They deserve a secure, worry-free retirement. They've earned it.
