Nonbinary is an umbrella term for people who don't identify as [only/always] male or female. Many nonbinary people identify as transgender.

Nonbinary people in the UK still can't marry or be legally recognised in our genders and many of us have to stay in the closet to access healthcare [1]. We experience transphobic harassment and discrimination.

However, even though around 1 in 250 of the UK population is nonbinary [2], the 2 biggest UK political parties don't have any policies for nonbinary inclusion [3].

We are tired of our voices being ignored, and we would like you to put nonbinary inclusion on the agenda. As nonbinary people and their allies we are potential voters and this is an issue we are concerned about and think that any future government should be doing something to address.

On 3rd of February we sent an email to several UK political parties asking for their policies on nonbinary inclusion.

We asked for their policies on issues such as;

- Legal recognition of nonbinary genders
- Equality and protection from discrimination
- Reform of gender identity clinics to allow better access to treatment for nonbinary people including less gatekeeping
- Making laws gender neutral rather than worded in terms of binary gender. For example, the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013; in this instance, rather than making the law gender neutral, it instead added a lot of extra clauses about ‘same sex couples' which means that nonbinary people still don't have equal marriage

Despite chasing several times, so far we have only had a 'thank you for sending us a letter' reply from the Tories and no reply at all from Labour.
