Illegal service termination by employer during lockdown

The Issue

The information technology sector is the only area that is supposed to survive during the impending lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic and make the lockdown successful along with being productive, as the sector has an option to pursue work from the home module. The same sector is most vulnerable also if we fail to manage it.

We have seen that most of the companies are in favor of cost-cutting and are in a hurry to firing their employees without following the due procedure, violating the laws and government advisories at the same time. The employees have been left at the dead end and have no option to search for another job and support their families financially. These employees are or about to be on the verge of hunger and may become a potential cause of chaos in unreachability of the essentials.

Personally, I have seen a mass termination in my organization (Globiva services private limited for Olacabs.com) and heard the news about the Fareportal for AIRBNB as well. Both of the companies have fired their employees in bulk without any compensation and left no choice. Though, these are merely two examples.

The same practices have been followed by other companies as well which will come in light with the time. Our petition is to raise our voice against such practices and to aware of the government and the respective ministries about the rising concern. The government should intervene before its too late.

Every affected worker should be entitled to respectful financial compensation and a promise that their service will be resumed once the lockdown will be released until then, they will receive their wages without any deductions.
