Controversy Erupts at Asian Games as Officials Block Fans From Displaying “Taiwan” Towels

During an Asian Games baseball game between Taiwan and China, a Taiwanese fan was stopped from displaying a towel bearing the word “Taiwan.” When fans questioned why “Taiwan” was considered political, one pointed to the Chinese flag displayed inside the venue and asked, “Why can they display it, but we can’t?” Venue staff maintained that the display constituted a political statement. The Taiwanese fans responded by chanting together: “Team Taiwan! Team Taiwan!”
