La Pine (and surrounding) Citizens United against the installation of a Data Center

La Pine (and surrounding) Citizens United against the installation of a Data Center
The Issue
While it is acknowledged at this date (13May2026 at 3:30pm) that there is no formal approval for a Data Center. We the People are calling for the City of La Pine in conjunction with Deschutes County to ensure there are no data centers approved for installation. These Data Centers have been proven to increase the cost of living, not only monetarily but also on health to the residents and surrounding areas.
We call on the City to decline the installation to ensure our community continues to remain "SMALL TOWN STRONG"
We call on La Pine City Council to hold true to their Vision Statement: to deliver the highest quality of life and livability for our community, residents, businesses and guests. (https://www.lapineoregon.gov/citycouncil/page/city-council-mission-vision-statements
Data centers commonly rely on:
- Power equipment like backup batteries and generators and uninterruptible power supplies which pose a significant fire risk to which the residents will likely pay for by increased insurance rates. Not to mention the hazard created by these batteries and generators.
- Cooling systems and equipment to handle air quality and temperatures, such as air handlers, chillers, fans, sensors, and water pipes and tanks. There is already a significant draw on our water and power and as recent as Nov 2025 already incurred a price increase due to other factors; we cannot afford this!
- There are a number of other health issues that have not been directly tied to these data centers... yet. However, we do not wish to be a statistic for these measurements.
We the People request that the City and County hear our cry to keep out Data Centers from our BEAUTIFUL LANDS and TOWN!
