Ce n'est pas le Coronavirus mais une usine d'engraissement de porcs qui donne un "coup de grâce" au Domaine de Boisbuchet

Le Domaine de Boisbuchet est un centre international de recherche en design et architecture. Le campus est entouré de 150 hectares de nature protégée dans le sud-ouest de la France et comprend un parc architectural de bâtiments historiques et contemporains.

Le 26 juin 2020, le maire de Lessac, notre commune, nous a informé par téléphone que la veille, il avait autorisé le permis de construire d'une usine d'engraissement de porcs sur un terrain directement adjacent au quartier central de Boisbuchet. Cette installation sera située à seulement 170 mètres de notre campus. Ni le maire ni les promoteurs ne nous ont informés au préalable de ce projet. A aucun moment les intérêts du Domaine de Boisbuchet, engagé dans des échanges culturels et humains depuis plus de 30 ans, n'ont été pris en compte.

Depuis 1990, des milliers d'étudiants et de professionnels dont des créatifs de premier plan tels que Shigeru Ban, Matali Crasset, Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec, Lina Gothmeh ou Alvaro Siza sont venus à Boisbuchet, rendant ce lieu unique dans le monde de l'architecture et du design, de l'écologie et de la durabilité. Mais aujourd'hui, malgré nos efforts fructueux pour faire face aux conséquences dramatiques de la crise du Coronavirus, nous sommes sur le point d'abandonner.

Si l'usine d'engraissement de porcs est construite, ce sera la fin de Boisbuchet tel que vous l'avez connu.

Tous nos fonds privés et d'important soutiens issues du secteur public ont été investis dans le centre de recherche de Boisbuchet pour le design, l'architecture et la nature. Nous sommes aujourd'hui sur le point de devenir une fondation qui garantira la pérennité de nos travaux. Tous ces efforts seront perdus si la construction de cette ferme porcine se poursuivait. Si le projet n'est pas arrêté alors qu'il en est encore temps, nous aurons échoué dans notre grand projet de faire de la Charente un pôle de design international où les graines du design mondial à venir sont plantées chaque été.

Non seulement une ferme porcine ne correspond pas à la philosophie de Boisbuchet, mais elle produira également des nuisances auditives et olfactives effrayant nos visiteurs. Nous avons entamé un procès, et après une première défaite, il y a peu de chances que nous remportions cette action. Il nous reste une possibilité, il s'agit d'une pétition adressée à Madame la Ministre de la Culture pour lui demander d'arrêter la construction. C'est notre dernière chance, mais cette pétition ne sera entendue que si nous sommes nombreux à la signer

It is not the Coronavirus but a pig-fattening plant that gives Boisbuchet the “coup de grace”.

Domaine de Boisbuchet is an international research center for design and architecture. The campus is surrounded by 150 hectares of protected nature in Lessac, southwest France and comprises an architectural park of historic and contemporary buildings. 

On June 26, 2020, the Mayor of Lessac, our commune, informed us by telephone that the day before he had authorized the building permit for a pig-fattening plant on a plot of land directly adjacent to the central Boisbuchet area. This facility would be located only 170 meters away from our campus. Neither the Mayor nor the developers informed us of this project beforehand. At no point were the interests of Domaine de Boisbuchet, which has engaged in cultural and human exchanges for over 30 years, taken into account.

Since 1990 on, thousands of students and professionals including leading creatives such as Shigeru Ban, Matali Crasset, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Lina Gothmeh or Alvaro Siza came to Boisbuchet, making this place unique in the world of architecture and design, ecology and sustainability. But today, despite our successful efforts to face the dramatic consequences of the Corona crisis, we are on the verge of giving up.

If the pig-fattening facility is built, it will be the end of Boisbuchet as we know it.

All of our private funds and continuous support from the public sector have been invested in Boisbuchet´s research center for design, architecture, and nature. We are today close to becoming a foundation which shall ensure the sustainability of our work. All these efforts would be lost if the construction of this pig farm goes ahead. If the project is not stopped while there is still time, we will have failed in our major project to make Charente an international design hub where the seeds of the upcoming design are planted every summer.

Not only does a pig farm not correspond to the philosophy of Boisbuchet, it will also produce visceral and olfactory nuisances scaring off our visitors. We have started a lawsuit, and after an initial defeat there is little chance that we will win this action. We have one possibility left and this is a petition addressed to the Minister of Culture with the request to stop the construction. It is our final chance, but this petition will only be heard if as many of us sign this petition.
