Support Public Transit in the North San Fernando Valley

On October 24th, The LA Metro Board will be voting to decide whether to move another step forward on a new public transit line to serve the San Fernando Valley. Metro's staff is gathering input from the community now and they want to hear from you!

The North San Fernando Valley, and all Los Angeles County residents, who work in, patronize or visit Valley businesses and institutions, including the students and staff of California State University, Northridge (CSUN), need high quality public transportation that provides connectivity throughout Los Angeles County. And, Valley residents and businesses need relief from heavy traffic.

In 2018, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro) held community meetings and presented various routes for the North Valley Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) – a modality that could ease the burden for those who make daily trips to and from the San Fernando Valley from all over Los Angeles County, and reduce single-car commutes. In early 2019, Metro staff recommended a route that connects Chatsworth to Panorama City to North Hollywood, with potential stops near businesses, health care facilities, and CSUN. The North Valley BRT should open in 2023-2025.

BRT is a much faster modality than a local bus -- offering quick and easy trips, making fewer stops at traffic signals via dedicated lanes. In Los Angeles County, there are already examples of BRT that provide vast regional service; the Metro Orange Line BRT connects the Red Line to the south-west San Fernando Valley and the Metro Silver Line BRT runs from downtown to San Pedro with connections at multiple transit lines.

Senate Majority Leader Hertzberg stands with his constituents of the San Fernando Valley who rely on public transportation and want reduced traffic.  He strongly supports high quality transit in our neighborhoods.
