Duke stood at the front of the kennel with a neutral body posture. As the runner got closer to his kennel, Duke began to growl and bark. His ears went back, his tail was low, and his body was tense. When the runner attempted to open the kennel door, Duke walked towards him growling and snapping his teeth. The runner did not feel comfortable with removing Duke at this time. Duke will be given a few more days to decompress and will be reassessed at a later date.

Duke was at the front of the kennel when the handler approached. He charged at the gate, showed his teeth and barked at the handler. When the handler would back off of the gate, he would retreat to the back of his kennel. When the handler re-approached and attempted to unlock the gate, he would run and lunge at the gate to attempt to back the handler off. He was vocal, eyes were dilated, tail wagged in a helicopter motion, ears were up and his body was tense. The handler closed the dog off on the inside of the kennel. The handler tried to come down to the dog's level but he would continue to act highly defensive. When the handler tried opening the kennel door, he would jump and attempt to bite the runner's fingers. The handler was finally able to get the dog to back off of the kennel door enough to place a leash inside. Duke had his tail tucked, avoided eye contact and tried cornered himself. As the handler attempted to leash him, he sat stood at the front of the kennel, his mouth was open with his tongue out, ears were up and eyes weren't as dilated. He was leashed and he walked out of the kennel nicely without any pulling. He was very aware of his surroundings and kept a close watch on the handler. Inside the catch pen, he was avoidant of being collared and licked his lips. He side eyed runners and became antsy as the handler continued to try collaring him. He stood still after multiple attempts and was collared. He was allowed into the play yard, he immediately began to panic and run away from the dogs. He tried exiting but was unsuccessful. After the dogs greeted him, he retreated to the other side of the yard and kept his distance. He explored the environment but was jumpy with sudden noises or movements. He approached one of the handlers and sniffed them while they weren't paying him any attention. He moved away quickly and kept to himself. He was sent out of the yard after having a decent first session in the play yard. He has no preferred playstyle and is selective of the other dogs. He will need to continue to be socialized, however he becomes offensively defensive as soon as he is placed back in his kennel. He will be made rescue only with a waiver due to defensive behavior displayed in kennel.
DUKE is incredible and stunning in person and he needs some help after he was left at the Shelter. They have now moved him to QUARANTINE and he will need a FOSTER and RESCUE to save his life ASAP! Please SHARE, he hates the Kennel and they have euthanized dogs recently without letting a RECUE save them. Please SHARE
