Activate Radio Hill with Off-Leash Dog Trails!

The Issue

The Citizens Committee to Save Elysian Park would like to activate Radio Hill — a natural space tucked between Elysian Park, the Arroyo Seco Parkway and Solano Canyon — with off-leash dog trails for the public’s enjoyment.

Currently, Radio Hill feels unwelcoming and unsafe for everyday visitors. We want to transform it into a conveniently located outdoor destination for community members, their families and four-legged friends to get exercise and fresh air. In fact, the area is in desperate need of off-leash trails — a safe distance from roadways — where our canine friends can run and play freely. Further, activating Radio Hill means creating another invaluable park space that’s easily accessed from neighborhoods like Solano Canyon, Chinatown and Lincoln Heights.

Working in collaboration with the L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks (RAP), we would like to create three access points and small parking areas. From these entrance points, the trails would ascend through the oaks, sycamores and walnut trees, offering panoramic views of downtown and L.A.’s eastside from the hill’s crest.

Currently, Radio Hill is horribly underutilized. We’re taking steps to ensure this natural space can serve our communities and future generations.
