Charge 15-Year-old Roksana Sikorski As A Juvenile.

The Issue

Born in Poland and severely abused as a child, 15 year-old Roksana Sikorski turned to the internet as a way to escape the loneliness, aggression and night terrors she was experiencing.

Soon, she met Michael Rivera on Facebook. Michael complimented her. He understood her and when he lured her to meet him at a local library their virtual romance became reality.  There was just one problem--Michael Rivera was a 24 year-old man.

After  a few months of secret phone calls and clandestine meetings, Rivera was found by the police sitting in a car in front of Roksana's home. When Roksana's parents became aware that their daughter was being sexually molested and mentally manipulated by an adult male, they forbid them to see each other and limited Roksana's cell phone and internet use. Rivera ignored the Sikorski's threats of filing criminal charges and continued to pursue the teenager; sending messages through her friends and anonymous texts. Although the police had caught Rivera with Roksana, they never formally arrested him. Once the police notified the Sikorski's that they caught Rivera with Roksana a second time, again with no arrest. Roksana's mother took her to U of M Hospital for a rape kit evaluation and subsequently filed charges aganist him.

Knowing that he would be found guilty of criminal sexual conduct, Rivera hatched a plan to further manipulate Roksana into thinking that her parents really didn't love her and that if she killed her entire family, he could avoid jail and they could be together forever.

On the night of October 17, 2014, Roksana attempted to carry out Rivera's evil plan. Unfortunately, Roksana's younger brother was stabbed, but has since recovered from his injuries. No one else was harmed that evening. However, the emotional scars that the entire Sikorski family have experienced have been the most hurtful--especially to Roksana who is now being tried as an adult for attempted murder and could receive life in prison.

Roksana understands the seriousness of the crime she committed and deserves to be rehabilitated not incarcerated for the rest of her life. This horrible incident could have been avoided if the police had arrested Michael Rivera at least one of the times that they found him with Roksana. Furthermore, on October 31, 2014 Wayne County Prosecutor, Kym Worthy dropped the criminal sexual misconduct charges against Michael Rivera, sending a strong message that statutory rape of a minor is NOT a crime in Wayne County.

We need your support to put pressure on Prosecutor Kym Worthy to finally give Roksana the help she deserves--try her as a juvenile and re-charge Michael Rivera with third degree criminal sexual conduct.
