Halt the herbicide spraying of Lanark County roadsides!

Halt the herbicide spraying of Lanark County roadsides!
The Issue
We, the undersigned, request immediate changes to Lanark County's herbicide roadside spraying program. Mowing at selected times has shown to be an effective method of controlling large infestations of wild parsnip. By choosing to mow, we can eliminate any potential risks to our pollinators, our wildlife and our water systems.
We urge you, as our elected representatives:
- to re consider your approach to the wild parsnip issue as soon as possible;
- to immediately cancel the granting of tender for spraying;
- to continue to mow our roadsides selectively and at the ideal times in keeping with the growth habits of the plant, and;
- to begin research and discussion to develop ecologically sound solutions that work in the long term.
Thank you, in advance, for respecting the need of Lanark County residents, present and future, for an environmentally sustainable community.
